400 MW BESS in Bouldercombe North, Queensland
The J Pierce Rd Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is in the very early planning stages and is proposed to be situated in Queensland, within the Rockhampton Shire Council, occupying a land area of around 11 hectares (28 acres). Subject to approvals, the facility would offer a substantial storage capacity of 1600 megawatt-hours (MWh), playing a key role in enhancing energy stability and reinforcing local power infrastructure in the region.
Powerlink has been appointed as the network provider to ensure efficient integration into the existing regional power infrastructure. Utilising advanced lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, known for safety, efficiency, and reliability, the J Pierce Rd BESS is designed to provide reliable energy storage solutions for the community.

Indicative site footprint, proposed along J Pierce Rd. Subject to approvals.
This project is in early-stage development stage and detailed timelines will be shared once available.
The J Pierce Rd BESS project remains in the early planning stages, with comprehensive grid studies currently underway. Technical assessments will follow industry best practice to ensure the project’s safety, efficiency, and reliability. Particular focus will be placed on minimising ecological impacts and protecting local biodiversity. Engagement with the community is an integral part of the planning process and will continue as the project progresses.
The current agreement is from 2024 to 2026.
Approval by network operator (Powerlink) to connect to the power grid.
ARES will engage closely with immediate neighbours through direct one-to-one discussions as soon as information about the J Pierce Rd BESS project is available.
ARES has initiated preliminary conversations with the local Council to introduce the project and address initial queries and considerations.
Wider community engagement, including information sessions, is planned for later this year to provide comprehensive project details and respond to community feedback effectively.
Initial engagement with Darumbal Enterprises, the local RAP, has been established to ensure culturally respectful development, and ongoing dialogue will continue as the project progresses.
